Yes- small game like fowl and some for fishing. While 40 cal is fun to shoot, the big bore 625 cal is recommended at least. Head or heart shots are best and the reason for practice.

Only for practice and small birds-maybe mice. Not that they can't do some damage and maybe death on small game with a head shot. I shot 40 cal for years before I thought I might wanna do some fishing or maybe squirrels. Then, big bore blowguns would be needed. Even with the 625 big bore, because I missed a head shot, a rat ran off with 4 darts in the neck, spinal,and body shots- all fully penetrated and broad head!! I could hardly believe my eyes!!

I have never used one for hunt but I heard it is used by rookie for small hunt like birds or squirrels
