Building - what bore for a noob?

OK, here we go folks...
If I was to build my own BG what bore would you recommend for someone with almost zero experience?
Im tempted by .625 but I dont know enough to know if I would be over reaching myself.
Help me out here guys, what are your thoughts?

My first blow gun is a 1/2 inch 4' copper pipe with a PVC mouthpiece. I am pretty sure that 1/2 inch is .50 cal. I would assume you would be making your darts as well (look on YouTube), so you should go with what feels comfortable for you.
