I was wondering what is the purpose of the mouthpiece on a blowgun? I own a .40 cal my wife bought for me and I removed the mouth piece as i could not tell the difference between shooting with or without it. So what is it for?

usually it is for either a better seal against your mouth and or to create a small lip to prevent you from sucking a dart back into your mouth.

I have shot both ways. And like a mouthpiece for comfort reasons. It just feels better for me.

I'd rather seal my lips against a mouth piece for an air tight puff rather than putting a tube inside my mouth

and doing it that way. Although I've seen some pretty good shot's from guys doing just that on youtube.

I have only ever owned a blowgun without one. I always assumed it was for a better seal to your mouth, but obviously it is not unnecessary for some people..

If you stumble with a steel tube in your mouth ,you'll have broken teeth.

I think you get better oomph,push and air forces itself with more power with a flaired mouthpiece than sucking on the end of the tube trying to

get the same power?

Better seal, more comfortable, anti-inhale. In all honesty, I like the looks of it better with a mouth piece as well.

So after reading all your posts, I have reconsidered and I have started to shoot with the mouthpiece in place. It does give me a better seal and makes it easier to blow. Plus it has an anti inhale design that sure comes handy. Thanks guys.

Just thought of another benefit, with a mouth piece if you ever use a site on the end of your pipe it will line up easier ever time once sited, giving you a better reference point. vs with just pipe it would be very easy to rotate a little to the left or right. That is if the mouth pice is oval and more mouth shaped then round.
